| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, It is the distinct privilege of this Body to |
| 3 |
| recognize milestones in the lives of citizens of the State of |
| 4 |
| Illinois; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, On January 30, 2006, Bessie Nolen Smith of Marion |
| 6 |
| will celebrate the 100th anniversary of her birth; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Bessie Nolen was born on January 30, 1906, at home |
| 8 |
| on Route 3 in Marion to Ed and Lucille Sanders Nolen; she is |
| 9 |
| the mother of the late Creighton A. Smith, a World War II P-47 |
| 10 |
| pilot, and the late Leslie W. Smith, a World War II B-17 pilot; |
| 11 |
| and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith is a member of the White Shrine and is |
| 13 |
| a past Worthy High Priestess, Dorcus Shrine, Marion; she |
| 14 |
| attended First Christian Church in Johnston City; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, She loves to feed and watch wild animals in her |
| 16 |
| back yard on the family farm; she has made numerous nativity |
| 17 |
| scenes with original clothes and gifts; she also enjoys making |
| 18 |
| flower arrangements and is known for her ability to make |
| 19 |
| beautiful displays; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, People especially enjoy her ability to recall past |
| 21 |
| events and family names and her joke telling; therefore, be it
|
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 23 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 24 |
| we congratulate Bessie Nolen Smith on the occasion of her 100th |
| 25 |
| birthday; and be it further
|
| 26 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 27 |
| presented to Bessie Nolen Smith as an expression of our esteem |
| 28 |
| and with our best wishes.
