HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Charlie B. Ragland, Sr., of Memphis, Tennessee, on Monday, January 9, 2006; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from Barrets Chapel High School, which he attended from kindergarten through twelfth grade; and

WHEREAS, He valiantly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army for three years; he married Aretta Westbrook Ragland in 1948; together, they shared 58 years and parented four sons and four daughters; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ragland was a lifelong church leader at Oak Spring Baptist Church in Arlington, Tennessee; he was retired from E.I. DuPont Chemical Co.; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ragland's son, Alan V. Ragland, is the Senior Pastor of Third Baptist Church of Chicago, located in the legislative district of State Representative Monique D. Davis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mr. Charlie B. Ragland, Sr., and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
