| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The congregation of Atlanta Christian Church in |
| 3 |
| Atlanta recently celebrated the church's 150th anniversary; |
| 4 |
| and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The day of celebration began with a coffee |
| 6 |
| fellowship, followed by an extended worship service, a catered |
| 7 |
| meal, numerous festivities, and an ice cream social; the |
| 8 |
| Gateway Singers provided a concert in the evening; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, According to the "1982 History of Logan County", |
| 10 |
| Atlanta Christian Church was organized in 1855; for the first |
| 11 |
| year, services were held "Lord's Day afternoons"; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, The first church building, erected in 1856, served |
| 13 |
| the members until 1912; the cornerstone of the present building |
| 14 |
| was laid March 16, 1913; historic paper collected by J.P. |
| 15 |
| Hieronymous were placed in the cornerstone; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Due to growth, the congregation broke ground for |
| 17 |
| the Christian Education Building on February 2, 1964; the |
| 18 |
| building was dedicated April 4, 1965; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, In 1981, the sanctuary was renovated at a cost of |
| 20 |
| more than $60,000; the cost was paid within the year by members |
| 21 |
| of the congregation; therefore, be it
|
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 23 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 24 |
| we congratulate the congregation of Atlanta Christian Church on |
| 25 |
| the happy occasion of
the church's 150th anniversary; and be it |
| 26 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 28 |
| presented to Atlanta Christian Church as an expression of our |
