HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The congregation of First Baptist Church of Maryville is celebrating the church's 60th anniversary on July 10, 2005; and

WHEREAS, First Baptist Church has a rich history and an exciting future; church attendance has grown from an average attendance of 32 in 1987 to almost 1,000 today; and

WHEREAS, The church began at 209 East Main Street and was officially organized on March 4, 1945; in 1987, the church relocated to 6 acres at 2184 Vadalabene Drive; its present location, 35 acres at 7110 Illinois State Route 162, was purchased in 1995; its first service on July 9, 2000, drew over 1,200 attendees; and

WHEREAS, The one thing that makes the church special is the people; from the caring staff to the friendliness of its diverse congregation, First Baptist is committed to truly being a family in Christ; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the congregation of First Baptist Church of Maryville on the happy occasion of the church's 60th anniversary and thank Pastor Fred Winters and his wife, Cindy, for their many years of inspirational service to the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to First Baptist Church of Maryville as an expression of our respect and esteem.
