HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois join with Representative Monique Davis in congratulating Charles L. Alexander, Principal of Morgan Park High School, on the occasion of his retirement after 40 years of service in the field of education; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander holds degrees from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Arkansas (B.A., History and Government); Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago (M.ED., Urban Education); and Chicago State University Chicago (M.A., Educational Administration; he continued his education at Northeastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Chicago State University, and completed 36 hours of graduate study in the Staff Development Program through the Chicago Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, He began his educational career as a history teacher at DuSable; in 1970, he moved to Morgan Park High School as a history teacher, where he went on to hold the positions of Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, and finally Principal; from 1970 to 1975, he worked with the YMCA, and he worked as a CETA Program Specialist for The Mayors Summer Youth Employment Program for the Chicago Board of Education from 1976 to 1998; he also served as the JPTA Coordinator for the Chicago Board of Education from 1983 to 1990 and as an instructor in the City College of Chicago Adult Evening School from 1981 to 1983; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander received the Principal of Excellence Award in 1995 and the Outstanding Principal Leadership Award in 1998; he is a member of the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association, the NAACP, Phi Delta Kappa Education Fraternity, NASSP, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; and

WHEREAS, He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Omega Associates, LTD., and on the Board of Directors of the Afro-American Youth Society; he is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, WayFarer's Lodge #128 F & A M, and St. John Church - Baptist, where he is a member of the Board of Deacons; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Charles Alexander on the occasion of his retirement, and we thank him for his many years of dedication to the education of students in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Alexander as an expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
