HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Grant Norman, a senior at Jamaica High School, is this year's recipient of the John Dickson Sportsmanship Award; and

WHEREAS, The award is given annually to a Vermilion County athlete in each sport of boys' basketball, girls' basketball, football, and volleyball; a team award is also given in each sport; it was started in 1976 by Fairmount native John Dickson, who was born in 1914 and was a graduate of Fairmount High School; and

WHEREAS, Grant received the award as a Salt Fork football player; he played for the Storm for four years as a defensive tackle; he received All-Conference, All-County Honorable Mention his junior year, and was All-Conference, All-County First Team this year; and

WHEREAS, Nominations for the sportsmanship award come from coaches; a committee of 12 people made up of local news writers, radio personalities who broadcast games, game officials, and three county superintendents select the winner; and

WHEREAS, Grant is the son of Greg and Julie Norman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Grant Norman on being this year's recipient of the John Dickson Sportsmanship Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Grant Norman as an expression of our respect and esteem.
