| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize milestone events for |
| 4 |
| institutions in the State; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School's parish in |
| 6 |
| Collinsville was founded in 1856; the first school was started |
| 7 |
| by Father S. Wegener, and the first students graduated in 1869; |
| 8 |
| in 1884, Ursuline nuns arrived to run the school; the first |
| 9 |
| principal was Mother Clara Spang; in 1894, a brick school was |
| 10 |
| built at a cost of $5,500, and the current school building was |
| 11 |
| completed in 1958; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, In 1993, the school had its first lay principal, |
| 13 |
| Mrs. Cathy McGarrahan, and the current principal, Mr. Mike |
| 14 |
| Palmer, began in 2003; the highest enrollment at Saints Peter |
| 15 |
| and Paul Catholic School was in the 1960s, when over 600 |
| 16 |
| students were enrolled; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School family |
| 18 |
| will celebrate a liturgy on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, to |
| 19 |
| close the school's 135th anniversary; therefore, be it
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 21 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 22 |
| we congratulate the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School |
| 23 |
| family on the occasion of the school's 135th anniversary; and |
| 24 |
| be it further
|
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 26 |
| presented to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in |
| 27 |
| Collinsville as an expression of our esteem and with best |
| 28 |
| wishes for the school's future success.
