HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Schuler Family Foundation has awarded a new
3 round of four-year college scholarships to Illinois high school
4 students; thirty-one Waukegan High School students and six
5 students enrolled at St. Martin de Porres High School in
6 Waukegan were awarded the Schuler Scholarship; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The most recent recipients join the current group
8 of 87 scholars who have also been awarded the $20,000 college
9 scholarships that can be applied to any four-year college or
10 university; since the program's inception in 2002, the Schuler
11 Family Foundation has awarded 124 scholarships to Waukegan area
12 high school students, totaling just under $2.5 million; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The Waukegan High School freshmen that received
14 this honor are Yenny Avila, Sejoud Bazar, Mark Bon, Dana
15 Carpentier, Gianni Crawford, Elizabeth Escovar, Eric Flores,
16 Andrew Gallegos, Melina Galvan, Bailey Gartley, Lorena Gomez,
17 Lisa Guerra, Tamar Ingleby, Carolyn Isaac, Nichole Johnson,
18 Kimberly Lagunas, Rashaan Melvin, Gerson Molina, Pierre
19 Moulton, Puja Patel, Ashley Portis, Teresa Ramirez, Julio
20 Ramirez, Binder Rojas, Shavanne Ross, Nina Salazar, Heather
21 Schopper, Chris Sedar, Jessica Torres, Steven White, and
22 Alexander Zamudio; and
 
23     WHEREAS, The St. Martin de Porres High School freshmen that
24 received this honor are Darlene Alonso, Kara Bonngard, Abdel
25 Castillo, Carolyn Kolf, Heather Mathias, and Rujan Sanico; and
 
26     WHEREAS, Scholars will receive $5,000 per year for four
27 years upon graduation from high school, payable directly to
28 their college or university; they are automatically readmitted
29 into the program each semester if they meet the program
30 requirements, including, but not limited to, maintaining a
31 certain grade point average, attending program events and

1 classes, remaining in good standing with their high schools and
2 the community, and constructively working toward obtaining a
3 college degree; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 we thank the Schuler Family Foundation for sponsoring its
7 scholarship program, and we congratulate the most recent
8 Schuler Scholars; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
10 presented to the Schuler Family Foundation, Waukegan High
11 School, and St. Martin de Porres High School.
