HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Hazel Lands, an esteemed resident of Harrisburg, on the occasion of her 100th birthday on April 14, 2005; and

WHEREAS, She was born Hazel McDermott in 1905 to John and Etta (Reed) McDermott; and

WHEREAS, On May 17, 1922, she married John Will Lands, and they had four children, George Lowell, Bobby Lee, Billy Mack, and Randall Gene; and

WHEREAS, Hazel's husband was a coal miner and they also had a small farm and raised registered Poll Hereford cattle; after her husband passed away, she continued with the farm and raising cattle; she was also the cook at Pierson School and Independence School; she loved to cook and loved being around kids; and

WHEREAS, Hazel is known for her delicious coconut pies, her love for animals, a quilt in the making, plus many other crafts; and

WHEREAS, She is a devoted Christian and member of the Saline Ridge Missionary Baptist Church; she has spent her life being a loving mother and friend to all; and

WHEREAS, She has been blessed with 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and is eagerly anticipating a great-great-great-grandchild in July of this year; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Hazel Lands upon her fulfilling life and reaching her 100th birthday and extend our sincerest best wishes for her continued good health and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Hazel Lands as an expression of our admiration and esteem.
