HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 150th
4 anniversary of the McMullin-Young Funeral Home; and
 
5     WHEREAS, In 1856, William P. Rittenhouse, the
6 great-grandfather of L. W. McMullin, settled in Lovington and
7 opened a business as a cabinetmaker; before long, he expanded
8 the business to coffin-making; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Throughout the years, the business became a
10 distributor of ready-made coffins, supplying the handmade
11 linings as well as handles and fittings; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In December of 1929, W.I. McMullin purchased a
13 residence and established the first funeral home in Sullivan,
14 the present site of the business; and
 
15     WHEREAS, In 1960, Donald W. Young, husband of Janet
16 McMullin, joined his father-in-law, Leonard, in the family
17 business; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Leonard W. McMullin died in 1977, leaving the
19 business in the hands of Donald W. Young and grandson, Donald
20 Mack Young; in the fall of this year, Alexander McMullin will
21 attend Worsham Mortuary School and become the seventh
22 generation to serve in the family business; and
 
23     WHEREAS, In honor of the business' 150th anniversary, a
24 customer appreciation day will be held on Saturday, June 10,
25 2006; therefore, be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we recognize the amazing longevity of the McMullin-Young

1 Funeral Home on the occasion of the business' 150th
2 anniversary; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the McMullin-Young Funeral Home as an expression
5 of our esteem.
