HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 150th anniversary of the city of Windsor; and

WHEREAS, Windsor was established May 16, 1856; the city's birth was the result of the Terre Haute and Alton Railroad building a line through central Illinois; established in the middle of an already bustling agriculture section, the city soon became populated and businesses became numerous; and

WHEREAS, As of 1883, the city had grown to be home to eight large dry good and grocery establishments, three groceries, three restaurants, two hardware stores, three drug stores, one bakery, three millinery shops, two jewelry establishments, two harness shops, two printing offices, one music store, two livery stables, one undertaker's shop, three blacksmith shops, two wagon shops, two mills, one shoe shop, two barber shops, one meat market, one hotel, one lumber yard, one large grain elevator, one hay press, and two tile factories; and

WHEREAS, There were four churches and a large brick school, where six teachers were employed; the societies present in the city were the Odd Fellows, the Masons, the Knights of Pythias, the Knights of Honor, the Good Templars, the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, the Horticultural and Floricultural society, and the Missionary society; there were three resident ministers, five doctors, two dentists, and one lawyer; and

WHEREAS, Today's city council consists of Mayor Dennis Hostetter and commissioners Terry Kuhl, Jim Trimble, Todd Shafer, and Cary Cole; Linda Voris has served as city clerk for 25 years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 150th anniversary of the city of Windsor, and we wish all of the residents the very best in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the city of Windsor as an expression of our esteem.
