HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On April 27, 2006, Superintendent Richard A. Maier will retire from public service; he has served the education system for the last 34 years with distinction and dedication; and

WHEREAS, Richard A. Maier has held numerous positions with Will County School District 92, including Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Principal, and teacher; during this time, the district's demographics have changed from a rural school system to a suburban system considered one of the fastest growing communities in Will County; and

WHEREAS, Richard's leadership as Superintendent of Will County School District 92 for the past eleven years has provided a vision for collaboration among the seven Lockport Area Consortium elementary districts and Lockport Township High School District 205; and

WHEREAS, As Superintendent his major accomplishments included passing two referendums providing the bonding authority to build Oak Prairie Junior High School and an educational rate increase; passing technology programming initiatives that began the installation of the first wireless lab in Will County; and influencing the design of differentiated curricular programs for students of varying talents and needs that included second language instruction, academically talented courses, before and after school programs, the integration of technology as a tool for learning, and fine arts programming for all students; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Maier was instrumental in the establishment of a Foundation for Educational Excellence; this group has provided funds to develop an outdoor educational classroom at Oak Prairie Junior High School and awards yearly teacher grants for unique educational programs; and

WHEREAS, In 2001, Mr. Maier was awarded a Fulbright Memorial Fund Fellowship to participate in an educational study tour to Japan; and

WHEREAS, Superintendent Richard A. Maier has dedicated his life to the education and enrichment of children in Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor and congratulate Richard A. Maier on his service and retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to him as an expression of our esteem and admiration.
