HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3 members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn
4 of the death of Alzata Pincham of Chicago on April 9, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mrs. Pincham was born June 27, 1925, to Katherine
6 Cox Henry and James Frederick Henry in Louisville, Tennessee;
7 and
 
8     WHEREAS, After graduating from Tennessee State University
9 in 1947, she taught elementary school in Lexington,
10 Mississippi; on August 31, 1948, she married R. Eugene Pincham;
11 and
 
12     WHEREAS, She and her husband moved to Chicago in 1948, and
13 she continued teaching with the Chicago Board of Education
14 until 1959 while her husband was in law school; when he began
15 his career, she "retired" to a career of homemaker and mother;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, Mrs. Pincham was active in numerous community
18 organizations throughout her life; she was a member of the
19 Tennessee State University Vintagers 50-year alumni
20 association and the Chicago State University Taggers
21 Association, vice-president of the West Chesterfield Community
22 Association, president of the Gillespie Local School Council,
23 and former Sunday school teacher at Faith United Methodist
24 Church; and
 
25     WHEREAS, She was a 30-year breast cancer survivor and an
26 active member of Trinity United Church of Christ where she was
27 a charter-founding member and president of the Can-Cer-Vive
28 cancer survivors' ministry; and
 
29     WHEREAS, The passing of Alzata Pincham is felt by all who

1 knew and loved her, especially her husband of 57 years, retired
2 Illinois Appellate Court Justice R. Eugene Pincham; her
3 children, Robert, Andrea (Robert Benton), and James; her
4 sisters, Rowena Hodges (Robert) and Edith Butler (Wendell); her
5 grandchildren, Evan Eugene Pincham and Christina Pincham; and a
6 host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends;
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
10 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that even as her death is mourned, we
11 give thanks for the blessing of Alzata Pincham's life and
12 extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and
13 community; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
16 sympathy.
