HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Marion
4Louise "Penny" Sullivan Smith, who passed away on September
515, 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marion Smith was born to the union of Roosevelt
7Pluitt and Ethel Sullivan in Chicago on September 15, 1933;
8she was raised in what is now known as the Bronzeville area of
9Chicago; she graduated from DuSable High School; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Marion Smith was pursued by several modeling
11agencies and considered law school after high school; however,
12her love for family led her to begin a family of her own; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Marion Smith was a hard worker with many talents;
14she could sew and construct anything; her home was always
15known as a showplace to all who visited; she will be remembered
16for being a strong family person who loved everyone and
17everyone loved; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Marion Smith was preceded in death by her
19siblings, Roosevelt Pluitt Jr., Ethel, Dorothy, Charles,
20Constance, and Othello; she was also preceded in death by
21three children, Lolita Smith-Oliver, Michael Smith, and Freddy

1Smith; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Marion Smith is survived by her children, Fred
3(Leonette) Smith, Sharon A. (Lee) Taylor, Hakeem A. (Avonda)
4Muhammad, and Andre (LaZondra) Smith; her grandchildren; her
5great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
6and friends; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we mourn the passing of Marion Louise "Penny" Sullivan Smith
10and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and
11all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Marion Smith as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
