HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor our dedicated colleague, Representative Denyse Wang Stoneback, and thank her for her service to the State and her community; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Stoneback was born and raised in Skokie, and she graduated from Niles North High School; she later earned her bachelor's degree in Criminology, Law Studies, and Spanish from Marquette University and a master's degree from the University of Madrid; and

WHEREAS, Prior to serving in the General Assembly, Rep. Stoneback taught English and translation; she also worked as a writer, editor, and project manager in the field of educational publishing for years; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Stoneback is a community leader and trailblazer; after the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, she founded the nonprofit organization People for a Safer Society, which aims to educate people and raise awareness on gun violence; and

WHEREAS, Since joining the General Assembly, Rep. Stoneback has passionately addressed issues that are important to the 16th District; she championed legislation that protects victims of domestic violence and promotes awareness of firearm restraining orders and increases training on their implementation; she also helped pass legislation to increase student access to mental health resources; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Stoneback served on numerous committees, working groups, and task forces that were pivotal to the progress of Illinois; she co-founded the Gun Violence Prevention Caucus to advocate for legislation that would protect all Illinoisans; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Stoneback is an example of perseverance, resilience, and dedication to the service of her constituents; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Representative Denyse Wang Stoneback on her accomplishments, thank her for her service, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rep. Stoneback as an expression of our respect and esteem.
