HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate student athlete Nicole Johnson of Edwardsville High School on the occasion her amazing performance and championship victory at the 2022 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A Girls Golf State Final Tournament; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Johnson set her sights on the championship early after committing herself to the hard work and dedication that is necessary for high levels of success after a twelfth place finish in the 2021 state tournament last fall; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Johnson's performance at the state tournament was preceded by wins at both the Class 3A Collinsville Regional tournament and the Class 3A O'Fallon Sectional tournament; her state tournament victory capped off 22 collective career wins with 11 having been won this season; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Johnson played incredible matches throughout the state tournament; on the first day of the tournament, she finished the day at 2-under 70 and followed that up with a bogey-free 4-under 68 round on day two; this resulted in a final score of 6-under 138 and secured her a four-stroke victory; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Johnson's overall score is the fourth lowest for an Illinois state champion, while her second round score of 4-under 68 was the second lowest round in Class 2A tournament history; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Johnson is the first large-school golfer to win their regional, sectional, and state tournaments in the same post-season since 2018; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Johnson is the twelfth state medalist of the girls golf program at Edwardsville High School and the first champion in program history; she is also only the second Edwardsville golfer to win a state tournament; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Nicole Johnson on her championship victory at the 2022 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A Girls Golf State Final Tournament, and we wish her continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we congratulate Nicole Johnson's coaches, her supporters, and Edwardsville High School as they celebrate her successful season, and we thank the community's efforts to encourage student dedication, perseverance, and teamwork; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Nicole Johnson and Edwardsville High School as an expression of our respect and esteem.
