HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sheriff Roger Mulch was born on December 25, 1957
6and passed away on April 20, 2022; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sheriff Mulch served with the Jefferson County
8Sheriff's Office from 1980 to 2014 and had a law enforcement
9career that spanned over 40 years from 1980 to 2022; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sheriff Mulch served in numerous capacities
11within the sheriff's office, including as a deputy, in
12investigations, and as chief deputy; he then ran for sheriff
13and served three terms; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 2014, Sheriff Mulch was elected president of
15the Illinois Sheriffs' Association; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sheriff Mulch brought the Drug Abuse Resistance
17Education (D.A.R.E.) program to Jefferson County, which helped
18the entire community, including many children and teens; and
 
19    WHEREAS, After retirement, Sheriff Mulch remained active,

1working and serving in the Chicago area from 2013 to 2022; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Sheriff Mulch leaves behind his wife, Shelly,
3their four-year-old daughter, Avery, and siblings, Kylee and
4Klarc; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
7SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of
8Interstate 64 in Jefferson County as the "Sheriff Roger Mulch
9Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
11is requested to erect, at suitable locations consistent with
12State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
13giving notice of the name of the "Sheriff Roger Mulch Memorial
14Highway"; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Sheriff Mulch and the Secretary of
17Transportation.
