SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate of the State of Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Robert "Bob" H. Jarrell of Naperville on September 1, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell was born on July 16, 1923 in Harrisburg; he graduated from Harrisburg Township High School in 1941; Mr. Jarrell earned a business administration degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1946 and received a master's degree in management from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago in 1961; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell was employed at the Illinois Institute of Technology from 1951 to 1983, first as the Institute's comptroller, and then as its business manager; he was also a lecturer in accounting at IIT; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell served as treasurer of Argonne University Associates from 1979 to 1983; he established a management consulting business, Robert H. Jarrell and Associates, from 1983 to 1989; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell was considered a fixture in Lisle Township political circles for more than thirty years; he served as Lisle Township Clerk from 1973 to 1989 and was elected Lisle Township Supervisor from 1989 to 1997; he was also the chairman of the Lisle Township Republican Organization from 1976 to 1978; at the time of his death, Mr. Jarrell was serving as a DuPage County jury commissioner for the twenty-ninth year; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell took leadership roles with the Chicago Salvation Army Settlement and the Chicago Unit of the American Cancer Society; Mr. Jarrell was also chairman of the Education Division of the Illinois Cancer Crusade; in addition, he was a longtime member of the Financial Executives Institute, for which he served as secretary in 1964 and 1965, the Illinois-Wisconsin Section of the National Association of Educational Buyers, for which he served as secretary-treasurer in 1969 and chairman in 1971, and both the National and Central Associations of College and University Business Officers; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell had been active in the Naperville YMCA Indian Guides program, an activity that he shared with his sons during their youth, and was a member of the Naperville Municipal Band, playing drums in the 1950s; he was also one of the earliest members of the Naperville Jaycees; he served with the Naperville Crusade of Mercy, now known as the Naperville United Way, and was the treasurer and a board member of Naperville Community Television; and

WHEREAS, In 1980, Mr. Jarrell joined Rotary One in Chicago and after retirement, he was inducted into the Rotary Club of Naperville in 1983; he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Robert H. Jarrell will be deeply felt by many, especially his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth J.; his daughter, Katherine Reuter; his sons, Michael, Steven, and Peter; his grandchildren, Christopher, Timothy, Brian, Diana, Jennifer, Kenneth, and Forrest; and his brother, John L.; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Jarrell; and his brother, Frank; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Robert "Bob" H. Jarrell along with all who knew and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert H. Jarrell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
