SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate have learned with great sadness that Albert A. Apa of Springfield died on September 21, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Apa was born in Chicago on June 5, 1921, the son of Michael J. and Rose Marie Tenuta Apa; and

WHEREAS, in 1949 Mr. Apa married Betty Jones, she preceded him in death and, in 1988, Mr. Apa married Diane Atterberry; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Apa served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star Medal, a Victory Medal, and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Apa worked for the Chicago Police Department for 32 years, having achieved the rank of sergeant; he retired as the Executive Director of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board in 1992 after 13 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Apa received the Award of Excellence in Law Enforcement Training for Lifetime Achievement, he was a member of the Italian American Police Association and the VFW Post 32, and he served on the board for the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority and the advisory board of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glencoe, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, The death of Albert A. Apa is a great loss to his family and friends, including his loving wife Diane, his daughter Candice Sue (Dennis) Enders, his sons Rick (Janet) and Chad (Teresa) Gooch, his five grandchildren, his sister Grace Apa, his brother Victor (Marie) Apa, his two nephews, and his many cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our deep sorrow at the passing of Albert A. Apa and that we offer our heartfelt sympathy to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be delivered to Mrs. Albert Apa with our sincere condolences.
