SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with great sadness of the death of Henrietta Moss of Harrisburg on Tuesday, September 14, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moss was born October 5, 1925 in Metropolis; her parents were William McKinley and Stella Goodman Motley; she married Walter T. Moss, Sr. on September 6, 1947 in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moss was a 1943 graduate of Harrisburg Township High School; she was employed as a cook at Malan Junior High School, where she was well known for her recipes, especially for her divinity recipe; and

WHEREAS, At an early age, Mrs. Moss confessed Christ; she was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Mothers Board; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moss also served on various other auxiliaries, including the Homemakers Extension Loyalty Unit, the Lincoln School Alumni Association, and the Community Helping Hands Club; she was formerly a member of the Saline County Democratic Women's Organization; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Henrietta Moss will be deeply felt by many, especially her eleven surviving children, Charlotte Taborn, Miriam (Delbert) Clingman, Nona (James) Rice, Beverly Sanders, Winifred Moss, William Moss, Randall Moss, Raymond Moss, Cecil (Doris) Turner, Elizabeth Jones, and Lowell (Laura) Moss; her forty-nine grandchildren; her sixty great-grandchildren; her two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Walter T. Moss, Jr.; her daughter, Debra Wilkins; her sister, Beatrice Medlock; and six grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Henrietta Moss along with all who knew and loved her and extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Henrietta Moss as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
