SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express
3 their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Donald
4 "Whitey" Verstraete of Moline, who passed away on August 27,
5 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born on March 3, 1937 to Adolph and Elsie
7 (Lyphout) Verstraete in Moline; he married Rosalie "Rose"
8 VanTuyl on June 2, 1973 in Rock Island; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Verstraete was a teacher and coach of
10 football, basketball and baseball at Alleman High School and
11 later a teacher and assistant varsity and head basketball coach
12 at Rock Island High School; he retired as a teacher and head
13 basketball coach at Moline High School; he was also a general
14 foreman at International Harvester and the former owner of Lil'
15 Cow Bell in East Moline; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was a member of Christ The King Church, where
17 he served as a cross bearer, Moline M Men's Club, and Township
18 Supervisors of Illinois; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He served on the Rock Island County Board and its
20 Forest Preserve Committee and Public Aid Committee, Youth
21 Service Bureau of Rock Island County, Partners in Job Training
22 of Rock Island County, Work Force Development of Rock Island
23 County and Henry County, and as Supervisor of South Moline
24 Township; in 1998 he received the Denny Jacobs Public Service
25 Award; and
 
26     WHEREAS, The passing of Donald "Whitey" Verstraete will be
27 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Rose;
28 his children and their spouses, Jeff Verstraete, Cheri Arnett,
29 Joy and Matt Sottos, Jay and Mary Moseley, Teresa Verstraete,
30 Scott and Melanie Verstraete, Connie Sergeant, Beth Foltz, and

1 Karri and Ken Gelski; his 22 grandchildren, Stephen and Jane
2 Sottos, Kristyn and Erin Verstraete, Amber and Ryan Sergeant,
3 Lindsey Mortier, Meaghan Verstraete, Andy, Amanda, Katy and
4 Sara Moseley, Aubree Chandler, Madison and Halle Foltz, Scott,
5 Samuel and Sean Gelski, Eric and Adam Arnett, and Nicholas and
6 Lucas Verstraete; and his five great-grandchildren, Elijah,
7 Xavior, McKenzie, Christian and Braden; he was preceded in
8 death by his granddaughter, Christal Foltz, his brother,
9 Richard Verstraete, and his aunt, Elsie Yeargle; therefore, be
10 it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 all who knew and loved him, the death of Donald "Whitey"
14 Verstraete; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Donald "Whitey" Verstraete.
