SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Clarence Evans on Thursday, August 26, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Clarence was born on July 14, 1922 to Clarence Evans, Sr. and Nannie Sherrod Evans Holliday; he joined St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where he became a loyal and committed member of the choir and the Eucharistic Ministers Service; and

WHEREAS, Clarence married Dorothy Eugenia Long on July 11, 1948; to this marriage two sons were born; Clarence and Dorothy were married for 56 years; and

WHEREAS, Clarence graduated from the public schools of East St. Louis School District 189; he went on to receive his pharmacy degree in 1950 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; he was then employed by the United States Postal Service until his retirement; he also worked for Sykes Drug Store as a pharmacist for many years; and

WHEREAS, He is remembered as a skilled and hard worker who put others' needs before his own; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Evans has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Mrs. Dorothy E. Evans; his son, Mr. Gerald E. Evans; his granddaughters, Mrs. Erika (Darian) Cummings and Mrs. Danielle (Tony) Longhibler; his great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Elijah, and Analiese Longhibler; his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Bernice Pierce, Mrs. Marjorie McCree, Mrs. LaSaundia Fordson, and Mrs. Rita Pelly; his brothers-in-law, Mr. Ollie (Marie) Jones, Mr. Frank Jones, and Mr. Leroy (Jamie) Jones; his great-aunts, Leitha Floyd and Gruenetta Coates; and his many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; he was preceded in death by his son, Mr. Marvin G. Evans; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Clarence Evans, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mr. Evans as an expression of our sincere condolences.
