SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Evelyn J. (Mohart) Wakeland Bartylak of Godfrey on Wednesday, August 18, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bartylak was born on September 22, 1920 in Hamilton to Theodore H. and Neta (Wedding) Mohart; and

WHEREAS, The wife of Joseph R. Bartylak, she spent time as a child welfare caseworker in Missouri; later, she became a gerontological caseworker in St. Louis, having implemented the Teamsters Council Housing for Retired Persons; she also conducted seminars in Hawaii and nationally regarding housing for the elderly; and

WHEREAS, She was educated in Illinois and Missouri, including at St. Louis University, Washington University, and Western Illinois University in Macomb; she obtained her medical technician degree from Pasteur Institute in St. Louis; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bartylak joined the First Presbyterian Church of Alton in 1977 and served as an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher; she was a board member of Saint Anthony's Home Health Care Group, was a board member of the Alton Museum of History and Art, and was a former member of Habitat for Humanity, Alton Woman's Council, and Lewis and Clark Foundation; she was an amateur artist and musically talented, devoting hours of music therapy to nursing and veterans homes; she was known for her community activism and her delicious cheesecake and canned sweet pickles; and

WHEREAS, Her passing has been deeply felt by many, especially her husband, Joseph R. Bartylak; her daughter, Mimi Chandler/Patrick; her son, the Rev. T. Michel Wakeland and his wife, Cynthia Hancock Wakeland; her stepdaughters, Diane B. Galbraith and Constance Clark; her foster son, Mike Little; her grandchild, Sarah Jean Wakeland; her sister, Marjorie Wehmeyer and her husband, Archie; and her numerous cousins, nieces, great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Evelyn J. Bartylak, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mrs. Bartylak as an expression of our sincere condolences.
