SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with deep sadness of the death in the line of duty of Joliet Police Department Patrol Officer Jonathan E. "Wood" Walsh on Friday, August 20, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Walsh was born on April 7, 1977 in Blue Island to Gregory E. and Norma J. (nee Sanders) Walsh; he graduated from Shepard High School in Palos Heights and received a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Governor's State University; he was pursuing his master's degree in business administration, previously at Lewis University, and at Western Illinois University at the time of his passing; he also completed numerous seminars and much advanced training, actively pursuing his professional education as a police officer; during his high school years, he was Captain of the Police Cadets in Chicago Ridge; and

WHEREAS, Officer Walsh joined the Joliet Police Department in February of 2001, was a certified member of the Bicycle Patrol, and also served on the Gang Violence Suppression Unit; he was a founder and member of the Joliet Police Department FNG Softball Team and a member of the International Police Mountain Bike Association; he previously served for two years as an officer with the Burr Ridge Police Department during which time he graduated from the Chicago Police Academy; and

WHEREAS, He grew up in the Moraine Valley Church in Palos Heights and was attending services regularly at Calvary Church in Naperville; he was known for his compassion for other men and women and his desire to help people; Officer Walsh was dedicated to serving the east side community; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Officer Jonathan E. "Wood" Walsh has been deeply felt by many, especially his parents, Gregory E. and Norma J. Walsh; his sisters, Lisa (Donald) Kralik and Debbie (Lance) Stephenson; his maternal grandmother, Clersie Sanders; his nieces and nephews, Eric Johnson, Riley and Delaney Kralik, and Colleen and Cara Stephenson; his numerous aunts and uncles; and his loving girlfriend, Tristen Hnetkovsky; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the untimely passing of Officer Jonathan E. "Wood" Walsh, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Officer Walsh as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
