SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with deep sadness of the death in the line of duty of
4 Joliet Police Department Patrol Officer Jonathan E. "Wood"
5 Walsh on Friday, August 20, 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mr. Walsh was born on April 7, 1977 in Blue Island
7 to Gregory E. and Norma J. (nee Sanders) Walsh; he graduated
8 from Shepard High School in Palos Heights and received a
9 Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Governor's
10 State University; he was pursuing his master's degree in
11 business administration, previously at Lewis University, and
12 at Western Illinois University at the time of his passing; he
13 also completed numerous seminars and much advanced training,
14 actively pursuing his professional education as a police
15 officer; during his high school years, he was Captain of the
16 Police Cadets in Chicago Ridge; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Officer Walsh joined the Joliet Police Department
18 in February of 2001, was a certified member of the Bicycle
19 Patrol, and also served on the Gang Violence Suppression Unit;
20 he was a founder and member of the Joliet Police Department FNG
21 Softball Team and a member of the International Police Mountain
22 Bike Association; he previously served for two years as an
23 officer with the Burr Ridge Police Department during which time
24 he graduated from the Chicago Police Academy; and
 
25     WHEREAS, He grew up in the Moraine Valley Church in Palos
26 Heights and was attending services regularly at Calvary Church
27 in Naperville; he was known for his compassion for other men
28 and women and his desire to help people; Officer Walsh was
29 dedicated to serving the east side community; and
 
30     WHEREAS, The passing of Officer Jonathan E. "Wood" Walsh
31 has been deeply felt by many, especially his parents, Gregory

1 E. and Norma J. Walsh; his sisters, Lisa (Donald) Kralik and
2 Debbie (Lance) Stephenson; his maternal grandmother, Clersie
3 Sanders; his nieces and nephews, Eric Johnson, Riley and
4 Delaney Kralik, and Colleen and Cara Stephenson; his numerous
5 aunts and uncles; and his loving girlfriend, Tristen
6 Hnetkovsky; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the untimely
9 passing of Officer Jonathan E. "Wood" Walsh, and we extend our
10 deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and
11 loved him; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Officer Walsh as an expression of
14 our sincerest condolences.
