SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Donald R. Fennell
4 of West Beverly on June 29, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Donald Fennell was born in Evergreen Park and grew
6 up in Chicago; he attended both Little Flower Grammar School
7 and High School; shortly after graduation, he joined the Army
8 for a two-year stint; in 1973, he graduated from Quincy College
9 with a degree in sociology and later received a computer
10 certificate from DePaul University; it was at Quincy College
11 where he met his wife, Catherine Loftus; and
 
12     WHEREAS, When he wasn't attending grade school and high
13 school sporting events, Mr. Fennell used to savor moments at
14 his summer home on Flint Lake in Valparaiso, Indiana; he would
15 always reminisce about the times he had up at the lake, where
16 he had been going since he was a boy and where his extended
17 family owns a dozen cottages; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Mr. Fennell worked briefly as a teacher in the
19 Chicago Public schools system; when his father died in 1975, he
20 became the owner of the family business, Skokie Valley
21 Products, distributing shortening and margarine to Chicago
22 area restaurants until 1986 when he left the company to pursue
23 his nearly two-decade career at the Chicago Board of Trade; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Mr. Fennell landed in the computer department of a
25 Chicago commodities firm at the Chicago Board of Trade that is
26 now the First Futures division of REFCO Group Ltd., LLC, and
27 eventually became vice president of client services; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of Donald R. Fennell will be deeply
29 felt by many, especially his wife, Catherine "Cathy"; his
30 daughter, Mary Kate; his sons, Matthew and Michael Fennell; his

1 brothers, Thomas (Sue) and Mark (Susan); his sister, Mame
2 (Thomas) Byrne; his in-law's Peg Klug, Joseph (Kathleen)
3 Loftus, Mary (Daniel) Houlihan, Charles (Susan) Loftus, and
4 James Loftus; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7 Donald R. Fennell along with all who knew and loved him and
8 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
9 be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Donald R. Fennell as an expression
12 of our deepest sympathy.
