SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Lorenza Yancey on Sunday, June 27, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Lorenza Yancey was born March 2, 1925 in Fayette County, Tennessee, to Will and Cassie Artison; she was one of four children; on September 12, 1942 she was united in holy matrimony to Thomas Yancey; he preceded her in death; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Yancey retired from Downey Hospital in 1986 where she worked for 20 years; she was a faithful Christian, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Lorenza Yancey has been deeply felt by many, especially her sons, Thomas (Ellen) Yancey Jr., Melvin (Phyllis) Yancey, and Artis (Tamara) Yancey; her daughters, Margree (Randolph) Danner, Velvin Faye (Alvin) Harper, and Ardrene Yancey; her 18 grandchildren; her 31 great-grandchildren; her brother, Herbert (Odessa) Artison; and her many nieces, nephews, and loving friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lorenza Yancey, and we extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lorenza Yancey as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
