SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Carmelo Mercado of Chicago on Friday, March 19, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on August 10, 1966, and resided in the Humboldt Park Community for many years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado was a faithful and devoted member of Pan de Vida (Bread of Life) Church, where he served as an Associate Pastor and through his testimony, preaching and teaching, many came to know the Lord; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado was a dedicated employee of ASPIRA of Illinois' Miguel del Valle Youth Development Center for two years, holding the position of Youth Mentoring Program Coordinator; he also mentored students at Nobel, de Diego, and Sabin Elementary Schools, and Steinmetz High School; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado is remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, godfather, friend, and neighbor who touched the lives of all who knew him; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado is survived by his proud parents, Luis Manuel and Rosa Mercado; his devoted wife, Digna Maria Perez; his loving daughter, Jelisa Mercado; his loving sons, Joshua and Marcus Mercado; and his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews; therefore be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Carmelo Mercado along with his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to members of his family as an expression of our sorrow for their loss.
