 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois learned with regret of the passing of Rod R. McMahan
 4    of Chicago on November 1, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Rod  R.  McMahan  was born on July 24, 1939, in
 6    Fremont, Nebraska, and graduated from  Nebraska  Wesleyan  in
 7    1962; and

 8        WHEREAS,  After  graduating from Yale Law School in 1965,
 9    Mr. McMahan moved to Chicago and joined the law firm of Lord,
10    Bissell & Brook, where he practiced in the field of corporate
11    appellate litigation for 38 years; along with his  duties  at
12    his  law firm, Mr. McMahan was also the financial and ethical
13    manager of  his  wife's  business,  Learning  Diagnostics  in
14    Lincoln Park; and

15        WHEREAS,  Mr. McMahan loved to spend time with his family
16    at Camp Madron in Buchanan, Michigan;  there  he  taught  his
17    children  to  fish,  cook, garden, and appreciate nature, all
18    the while subjecting them to semantics/word games at which he
19    knew he was unbeatable; Mr. McMahan loved to teach but not as
20    much as he loved to learn, a sense he has obviously passed on
21    to his children; and

22        WHEREAS, The passing of Rod R. McMahan  has  been  deeply
23    felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 25
24    years,  Cherie  Laaperi;  his  children,  Michael and Beckett
25    McMahan; his sister, Karen Rambadt;  and  his  mother  Cloris
26    Yarpe McMahan; therefore, be it

27        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
28    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along  with
29    all  who  knew  him,  the  death of Rod R. McMahan; and be it
30    further

31        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be

 1    presented to the family of Rod R. McMahan as an expression of
 2    our sincerest condolences.
