1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois learned with regret of the death of E. Stanley
4 Enlund of Clarendon Hills; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Enlund graduated from Carl Schurz High
6 School and received a J.D. from DePaul University's College
7 of Law in 1942; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Enlund served in the United State Navy
9 during World War II between 1942 and 1945 and departed with a
10 rank of lieutenant junior grade; he served his country as a
11 bomb disposal officer aboard a small escort aircraft carrier
12 when three torpedoes sank his ship, and he floated for hours
13 in the Atlantic Ocean; and
14 WHEREAS, After World War II, he began his banking career
15 at the Continental Illinois National Bank & Trust Co., and he
16 was later hired at the former Sears Bank & Trust Co.; between
17 1963 and 1971, he was president and chief executive officer
18 of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Chicago;
19 in 1971, he became First Federal Savings' chairman of the
20 board and chief executive officer; he retired in 1983; and
21 WHEREAS, Strongly influenced by a deeply religious
22 grandmother, Mr. Enlund was passionate about his involvement
23 in a wide range of civic and charitable organizations; he
24 firmly believed that one person could make a difference in
25 the lives of other people; and
26 WHEREAS, Mr. Enlund served as trustee and chairman of the
27 board of trustees at DePaul University between 1967 and 1987,
28 and he served in many charitable organizations, including the
29 YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, the Chicago Association of
30 Commerce and Industry, Chicago United, and USO of Chicago
31 Inc.; and

1 WHEREAS, Among his many awards, in 1984 Mr. Enlund
2 received the Junior Achievement Chicago Business Hall of Fame
3 Award; in 1987, he received an honorary doctorate of law from
4 DePaul University's College of Law; and
5 WHEREAS, The passing of E. Stanley Enlund has been deeply
6 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife,
7 Calista Enlund; his son, John Enlund; his three
8 grandchildren, Christopher John, Lori Christina, and Craig
9 Erik; and his nieces, Carol Toothill Anderson, Pamela Enlund
10 Schultz, and Julie Enlund Anderson; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 all who knew and loved him, the death of E. Stanley Enlund;
14 and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of E. Stanley Enlund as an expression
17 of our sincerest condolences.
