 1        AN ACT in relation to public aid.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid  Code  is  amended  by
 5    adding Section 12-4.13a as follows:

 6        (305 ILCS 5/12-4.13a new)
 7        Sec.   12-4.13a.  Food   stamp   outreach   program.  The
 8    Department of Human Services shall develop and  implement  an
 9    outreach  program  to  increase  participation in the federal
10    food stamp program. The objective  of  the  outreach  program
11    shall  be to increase the levels of participation in the food
12    stamp program by senior citizens, residents of  rural  areas,
13    and  employed  persons  with low family incomes. The outreach
14    program shall provide for disseminating information to  those
15    groups   concerning  food  stamp  eligibility  standards  and
16    application procedures.  The  disseminated  information  must
17    also  inform  those groups that many individuals and families
18    are eligible for food stamps even  if  they  do  not  receive
19    public aid under this Code.

20        Section  99.  Effective  date. This Act takes effect upon
21    becoming law.
