SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/7-602.1 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that any motor vehicle subject to the mandatory insurance requirements of the Code must display on its rear license plate a sticker indicating that the vehicle is covered by liability insurance and the month and year through which coverage has been purchased. Provides that an insurer must provide an insurance sticker for each vehicle insured under its policy. Provides that the insurer may not issue a similar sticker with any policy that does not provide the coverage required by the Code. Provides that the Secretary of State shall adopt rules providing that, if the Secretary issues a new license plate for a vehicle, and the insurance sticker for that vehicle has not expired, the insurer must issue a new sticker for that vehicle. Provides that the Secretary shall prescribe the form and content of the sticker. Provides that the Secretary shall adopt any additional rules necessary for implementing the provision.

1     AN ACT concerning vehicles.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 7-602.1 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/7-602.1 new)
7     Sec. 7-602.1. Insurance sticker.
8     (a) Any motor vehicle subject to Section 7-601 of this Code
9 must display on its rear registration plate a current sticker,
10 provided by the insurer under this Section, indicating that the
11 vehicle is covered by liability insurance and the month and
12 year through which coverage has been purchased.
13     (b) An insurance sticker must be provided for each motor
14 vehicle insured by the insurer issuing the liability insurance
15 policy. An insurer may not issue a sticker, similar in form and
16 content to the insurance sticker issued under this Section,
17 with an insurance policy that does not provide the liability
18 insurance coverage required under Section 7-601.
19     (c) The Secretary of State shall adopt rules providing
20 that, if the Secretary issues a new license plate for a
21 vehicle, and the insurance sticker on the previous license
22 plate for that vehicle has not expired, the insured shall issue
23 a new insurance sticker for that vehicle.
24     (d) The Secretary shall prescribe the form and content of
25 the insurance sticker.
26     (e) The Secretary shall adopt any additional rules
27 necessary to implement this Section.
