SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
305 ILCS 5/14-8.1 new

    Amends the Illinois Public Aid Code. Provides that, for inpatient and outpatient services provided on or after January 1, 2005, in addition to rates paid for inpatient and outpatient hospital services, the Department shall pay each hospital (except for county providers and hospitals licensed under the University of Illinois Hospital Act) an amount as determined by rule of the Department, to reimburse the hospital for the reasonable costs of complying with the Language Assistance Services Act that are attributable to serving Medicaid recipients. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning public aid.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by
5 adding Section 14-8.1 as follows:
 
6     (305 ILCS 5/14-8.1 new)
7     Sec. 14-8.1. Language assistance services reimbursement.
8 Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, for inpatient
9 and outpatient services provided on or after January 1, 2005,
10 in addition to rates paid for inpatient and outpatient hospital
11 services under this Code, the Department shall pay each
12 hospital (except for county providers as defined in Article XV
13 of this Code and hospitals licensed under the University of
14 Illinois Hospital Act) an amount as determined by rule of the
15 Department, to reimburse the hospital for the reasonable costs
16 of complying with the Language Assistance Services Act that are
17 attributable to serving Medicaid recipients. The annual,
18 aggregate amount of payments under this Section shall be
19 $30,000,000. To qualify for payments under this Section, the
20 Department may require each hospital to submit an annual report
21 of the costs it incurred in complying with the Language
22 Assistance Services Act.
 
23     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
24 becoming law.
