 1        AN ACT concerning animals.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The Humane Care for Animals Act is amended by
 5    adding Section 7.20 as follows:

 6        (510 ILCS 70/7.20 new)
 7        Sec. 7.20. Veal calves. Notwithstanding the provisions of
 8    Section 13 of this Act, no person may raise a  calf  for  the
 9    production of veal unless:
10             (1)  The  calf is raised in an enclosure without any
11        impairment  such  as  chaining  or   tethering   and   of
12        sufficient  size  to  permit  the calf to be free to turn
13        around   without   difficulty,   lie   with   its    legs
14        outstretched, and groom itself.
15             (2)  The   calf  is  fed  a  daily  diet  containing
16        sufficient iron to prevent anemia and  to  maintain  good
17        health and vigor.
18             (3)  If  the  calf  if  more than 14 days old, it is
19        provided  each  day  with  food   containing   sufficient
20        digestible   fiber  to  prevent  the  impairment  of  the
21        development of its rumen.

22        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act  takes  effect  14
23    days after becoming law.
