HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Della Pitt Bryant on March 24, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Della Pitt Bryant was born on October 27, 1924 in Palmyra, North Carolina; she lived most of her life in Tarboro and Edgecombe County, North Carolina; she graduated from Tarboro High School and from the Rocky Mount Sanitorium as a registered nurse in 1945; her nursing career spanned 42 years; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bryant was known as "Miss Della", resulting from her 42 years of service as a nurse in Tarboro; she worked for the Edgecombe County Health Department, Edgecombe General Hospital, the Tarboro City School, Long Manufacturing Company, Beverly Health Care, and the Fountains at the Albemarie for a number of private patients; she also nursed her mother, mother-in-law, and husband through terminal illnesses; she brought comfort to many through her gentle touch, the warm and tender care she provided, the patience she always seemed to have, her loving words and great skill, and her indomitable spirit; and

WHEREAS, Miss Della was often seen running around the Tarboro area sporting gold shoes and "dancing" with delight in sharing her time and doing some good for others in need; she spent time visiting at convalescent centers, looking for folks without visitors and sharing her energy with them to make their day brighter; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Della Pitt Bryant will be deeply felt by many, especially her four children and their spouses, including her son Richard B. Bryant, Jr., principal of C.I. Johnson elementary school in Aurora; her seven grandchildren; and her five great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Dick; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Della Pitt Bryant along with all who knew and loved her and extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Della Pitt Bryant as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
