 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Kaitlyn  Fitzgerald,  an  esteemed  resident  of
 3    Prospect  Heights  and  a student at MacArthur Middle School,
 4    has achieved national  recognition  for  exemplary  volunteer
 5    service  by  receiving  a 2003 Prudential Spirit of Community
 6    Award; and

 7        WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by  Prudential
 8    Financial  in  partnership  with  the National Association of
 9    Secondary School Principals, honors young  volunteers  across
10    America  who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to
11    serving their communities; and

12        WHEREAS, Ms.  Fitzgerald  earned  this  award  by  giving
13    generously  of  her  time  and  energy to organize a backyard
14    carnival that  raised  more  than  $7,000  to  cover  medical
15    expenses  for a young girl with cerebral palsy; she recruited
16    a group of friends to help; they designed and posted  flyers,
17    choreographed   a  show,  made  carnival  games,  designed  a
18    program, and sought donations for raffle prizes; after  eight
19    weeks  of planning, the carnival was a huge success with more
20    than 450 people in attendance  and  the  proceeds  surpassing
21    Ms. Fitzgerald's goal; and

22        WHEREAS,  The  success  of  the  State  of  Illinois, the
23    strength of our communities,  and  the  overall  vitality  of
24    American   society   depend,   in  great  measure,  upon  the
25    dedication of young people like Ms. Fitzgerald who use  their
26    considerable   talents   and   resources   to  serve  others;
27    therefore, be it

28        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
29    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30    we congratulate and honor Kaitlyn Fitzgerald for being  named
31    a  recipient  of  a  Prudential  Spirit  of  Community Award,
32    recognizing her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer

 1    leadership, and community spirit; and be it further

 2        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 3    presented  to Kaitlyn Fitzgerald with our best wishes for her
 4    continued success and happiness and as a token of our respect
