 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Lois Marie Newell Schackmann was born March  26,
 3    1927 in Springfield to Elizabeth and Thomas Newell; and

 4        WHEREAS,   Lois   Newell  Schackmann  attended  Spaulding
 5    Elementary and Riverton High School; and

 6        WHEREAS, Lois Newell married  James  Carl  Schackmann  on
 7    July  27,  1946  and their children include Linda Anne, James
 8    Howard, and Brian Albert; and

 9        WHEREAS, Lois  Schackmann  has  been  involved  with  the
10    American Legion Auxiliary for over 30 years; and

11        WHEREAS, Lois Schackmann represented the 8 and 40 Club to
12    the  children  at St. John's Children's Hospital from 1953 to
13    1961; and

14        WHEREAS, Lois Schackmann volunteered through the American
15    Legion Auxiliary to help Veterans at  St.  John's  Sanitarium
16    from 1953 through 1961; and

17        WHEREAS,  Lois  Schackmann  served on the board of Illini
18    Girl's State from 1954  to  1984;  served  on  the  governing
19    Commission  of  Illini  Girl's  State  from 1974 to 1982; was
20    responsible for arranging tours of the Lincoln sites and  all
21    State  buildings  in  Springfield  for  over 500 Girl's State
22    attendees  each  year  for  30  years;  was  responsible  for
23    arranging meetings between  the  State  Governor,  Lieutenant
24    Governor,  Secretary  of  State, and State Treasurer, and the
25    corresponding elected Illini  Girl's  State  representatives;
26    and   helped   educate  these  same  500  girls  about  State
27    government for 30 years; and

28        WHEREAS,  Lois  Schackmann  has  been  a  member  of  the
29    Memorial Hospital Guild, a charter member of  the  Old  State
30    Capital   Foundation,   a   member  of  the  Sangamon  County

 1    Tuberculosis Foundation, and was instrumental  in  the  first
 2    Toys for Tots campaign in 1956; and

 3        WHEREAS,  Lois  Schackmann served as the secretary of the
 4    Ronald Reagan Home Preservation and  Restoration  Foundation;
 5    and

 6        WHEREAS, Lois Schackmann has been a member of the Capital
 7    City  Women,  South  Sangamon  Republican  Club,  Clear  Lake
 8    Township Club, and West Sangamon Republican Club; and

 9        WHEREAS,   Lois  Schackmann  has  worked  on  most  every
10    Republican county official's  campaign  since  Judge  Raymond
11    Terrell's  first  campaign;  every  Republican State campaign
12    since Bill Stratton's race for Governor; been to every  State
13    Convention  since 1979; helped with the city campaigns of Irv
14    Smith, Karen Hasara, and Tony  Libri;  and  helped  with  the
15    national  campaigns of Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, Gerald
16    Ford, Richard Nixon, George Bush, Robert Dole, and George  W.
17    Bush; and

18        WHEREAS,   Lois   Schackmann   has  worked  as  Executive
19    Assistant for Sangamon County Republican Chairman  Irv  Smith
20    from 1983 to 2003; and

21        WHEREAS,   Lois  Schackmann  worked  on  the  Springfield
22    Municipal Parking Commission from 1988 to 1992; and

23        WHEREAS, Lois Schackmann currently serves on the Sangamon
24    County Jury Commission; and

25        WHEREAS, Lois Schackmann  has  officially  retired  after
26    giving 20 years of loyal and faithful service to the Sangamon
27    County Republican Central Committee; therefore, be it

28        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
29    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
30    we  congratulate  Lois  Schackmann  on  the  occasion  of her

 1    retirement, and we thank her for her many years of dedication
 2    and service; and be it further

 3        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 4    presented  to Lois Schackmann as an expression of our respect
 5    and esteem.
