 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Small businesses and family run  businesses  are
 3    part  of  the  backbone of the Illinois economy and many such
 4    businesses have a rich history; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Novak & Parker
 6    will be celebrating its 88th Anniversary in 2003; and

 7        WHEREAS, Novak & Parker, located in Mount  Prospect,  was
 8    first  conceived in 1915; Joe Novak and Robert Parker started
 9    an electrical contracting business in  the  back  room  of  a
10    barber  shop  in  Park  Ridge;  in 1941, because of troubling
11    financial times, Robert Parker left the company to  work  for
12    the   Army  Corps  of  Engineers,  helping  to  build  O'Hare
13    International Airport; and

14        WHEREAS, Bob Novak, the son of founder Joe Novak opened a
15    second store in Mount Prospect following  World  War  II;  in
16    addition  to  electrical appliances, the Mount Prospect Store
17    sold speedboats; as the Mount Prospect store grew, so did the
18    need for more  space;  Mr.  Novak  built  the  current  store
19    located at 1016 E. Northwest Highway; and

20        WHEREAS,  At one point, three separate locations of Novak
21    & Parker existed  in  Mount  Prospect,  Northbrook,  and  Des
22    Plaines;  each  of  those  stores consolidated into the Mount
23    Prospect location; the business  is  now  run  by  the  third
24    generation of Novaks, Dan and Peter; therefore, be it

25        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
26    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
27    we  congratulate  Novak  & Parker on the occasion of its 88th
28    anniversary of operation; and be it further

29        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
30    presented  to  Bob, Dan, and Peter Novak with our best wishes
31    for the continued success of Novak & Parker.
