 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State of Illinois wish to congratulate Dr. Jane Prescott
 4    Brown of Hazel Crest on the occasion  of  her  retirement  as
 5    Director of Alumni Affairs at Chicago State University; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Jane  Connor  Prescott  was  born in Chicago on
 7    January 24, 1933 to Eunice Lyons and James  Connor  Prescott;
 8    she  grew  up  in  the  Rosenwald  Building and moved to West
 9    Chesterfield at the age of 7; and

10        WHEREAS, She married Jerome Howard Brown,  whom  she  had
11    known  since  she  was  7;  they  had  3 children, Christine,
12    Stephen, and Lynn, and were married for 32  years  until  his
13    death in 1983; and

14        WHEREAS,  Dr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Education degree,
15    a Masters in Early Childhood Development/Administration,  and
16    a  Doctorate in Public Administration; she has also completed
17    many  courses  in  foreign  studies,  international  affairs,
18    decoration, and teaching certification; and

19        WHEREAS, Dr. Brown began her career with the Young  Men's
20    Jewish  Council  in  1956;  she has worked as a preschool and
21    higher education teacher;  as  Executive  Director  of  South
22    Shore  Community  Center;  as Deputy Director and Director of
23    Day Care and Head Start; as Director of Social  Services  and
24    Director  of Resource Development and Interagency Affairs for
25    the Community and Economic Development  Association  of  Cook
26    County,  Inc  (CEDA); and as Director of Developing Community
27    Programs and Director of Alumni  Affairs  for  Chicago  State
28    University; and

29        WHEREAS,  Dr.  Brown  was  one of 47 people in the United
30    States selected to serve on Secretary  of  State  Shultz  and
31    Bakers'  Minority  Committee for the Middle East, Central and

 1    South America, and South Africa, which dealt with  apartheid,
 2    drug trafficking in the U.S, and women's rights; and

 3        WHEREAS,   Dr.   Brown   was  the  first  female  in  the
 4    Chicagoland  Region  to  become  an   owner/operator   of   a
 5    McDonald's  franchise;  she  won the Gold Hat Award, which is
 6    presented by other McDonald's owners; she  has  served  as  a
 7    trustee  for  the Village of Hazel Crest and as a trustee for
 8    the Grande Prairie  Public  Library  District,  covering  the
 9    Hazel Crest and Country Club Hills areas; and

10        WHEREAS,  Dr.  Brown  is  a  member of the South Suburban
11    Chicago Links, Inc.; Alpha Kappa Alpha  Sorority;  the  Eight
12    Hearts  Bridge  Club;  the Queen of Diamonds Bridge Club; the
13    Chi-Burbs Bridge Club; the  Posse;  and  history  clubs;  she
14    serves on the Senior Nutrition Board for CEDA of Cook County,
15    the Illinois Youth Advocates Program Board, the Chicago State
16    University  Annuitants  and  Child  Care  Advisory Board, the
17    Governors State University Alumni Relations Board, the  South
18    Cook   County  Girl  Scouts  Board  of  Directors,  the  West
19    Chesterfield  Historical  Association,  the  Grande   Prairie
20    Library, and the Village of Hazel Crest; and

21        WHEREAS, Dr. Brown enjoys traveling, playing bridge, art,
22    music,  history,  reading, dancing, and mentoring; she is the
23    grandmother of 3 girls and 2 boys; therefore, be it

24        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
25    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26    we congratulate Jane Prescott Brown on the  occasion  of  her
27    retirement; and be it further

28        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
29    presented to Jane Prescott Brown  as  an  expression  of  our
30    sincere  respect  and  esteem  and  with  best  wishes  for a
31    peaceful and relaxing retirement.
