 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Olympia Fields Country Club in  Olympia  Fields,
 3    and the United States Golf Association (USGA) have cultivated
 4    a  long-lasting  relationship  and  history  of  hosting past
 5    United  States  Open  Golf  Championships  in   the   Chicago
 6    Southland   region,  most  notably  the  1914  U.S.  Open  at
 7    Midlothian Country Club, and the 1928 U.S.  Open  at  Olympia
 8    Fields Country Club; and

 9        WHEREAS, Olympia Fields Country Club's successful staging
10    of  the 1997 U.S. Senior Open paved the way for an invitation
11    to the USGA to  host  a  future  U.S.  Open  in  the  Chicago
12    Southland region at Olympia Fields Country Club; and

13        WHEREAS,  The  USGA  accepted  the  invitation of Olympia
14    Fields  Country  Club  to  host  the  103rd  U.S.  Open  Golf
15    Championship at historic Olympia Fields Country Club  in  the
16    Chicago Southland; and

17        WHEREAS,  Visitors  from  across  the  nation  and  other
18    countries  will  travel  to and stay within the Chicago metro
19    area to attend the  103rd  U.S.  Open  Golf  Championship  at
20    Olympia Fields; and

21        WHEREAS,  This  most  prestigious  golf  event  will draw
22    approximately 40,000 spectators, staff, volunteers, and media
23    per day to the Chicago metro area, resulting in an  estimated
24    economic  impact  of  between $50 to $60 million in sales and
25    tax revenues for the State of Illinois and businesses located
26    within the State; therefore, be it

27        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
28    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29    we thank the United States  Golf  Association  for  selecting
30    Olympia Fields to be the location of the 103rd U.S. Open Golf
31    Championship; and be it further

 2    presented to the United States Golf Association with our best
 3    wishes for a successful 103rd U.S. Open Golf Championship.
