 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of  Illinois  wish  to congratulate Dr. Ronald D.
 4    Michaelson on the occasion of his retirement as the Executive
 5    Director of the State Board of Elections and to thank him for
 6    his faithful service; and

 7        WHEREAS, Dr. Michaelson was born on December 31, 1941; he
 8    received a Bachelor of Arts degree from  Wheaton  College  in
 9    1963,  a  Master  of  Arts  degree  in political science from
10    Northwestern University in 1965, and a  Ph.D.  in  government
11    from Southern Illinois University in 1970; and

12        WHEREAS,  Dr.  Michaelson  began  his  government work as
13    Assistant to the Governor for Governor Richard B. Ogilvie; he
14    then served as Assistant to the Vice  President  of  Academic
15    Affairs  and  Assistant  Professor  of  Public Affairs at the
16    former Sangamon State University in Springfield; and

17        WHEREAS, Dr. Michaelson began his career with  the  State
18    Board  of  Elections as the first and only Executive Director
19    the board has ever had; as Executive  Director,  he  has  had
20    complete  administrative and supervisory responsibility of an
21    agency which employs 65  staff  with  an  approximate  annual
22    budget of $9 million; and

23        WHEREAS,   Dr.  Michaelson  is  the  author  of  numerous
24    articles on government which have been published  in  leading
25    state   and   national   journals;   he  currently  holds  an
26    appointment to the Advisory Committee of the Federal Election
27    Commission, is a past national chairman  of  the  Council  on
28    Governmental  Ethics  Laws,  and  is  a  frequent  speaker at
29    national conferences in the areas of election  administration
30    and  campaign  finance;  he is an adjunct professor of Public
31    Affairs  at  the  University  of  Illinois  at   Springfield;
32    therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 2    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
 3    we  congratulate  Dr. Ronald D. Michaelson on the occasion of
 4    his retirement as the Executive Director of the  State  Board
 5    of  Elections  after  30 years of distinctive service, and we
 6    thank him for his dedication to service of  the  citizens  of
 7    Illinois; and be it further

 8        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 9    presented to Dr. Michaelson as an expression of  our  respect
10    and  esteem  and with our sincere wishes for many happy years
11    of retirement.
