 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  House  of  Representatives
 3    congratulate  University  of Illinois senior Matt Lackey from
 4    Moline on winning the  165  Lb  Weight  Class  National  NCAA
 5    Wrestling Title; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Matt  Lackey  finished third in 2001, second in
 7    2002, and has now become the NCAA champion at 165 pounds; his
 8    6-3 win over the second-seed Troy Letters  of  LeHigh  helped
 9    lead  the  Illini  to  their seventh Top-10 finish under Head
10    Coach Mark Johnson; and

11        WHEREAS, The Illini squad under the  leadership  of  Head
12    Coach  Mark  Johnson  and  team captain Matt Lackey scored 53
13    points and finished ninth in the nation in 2003; and

14        WHEREAS,  Matt  Lackey  finishes  the  season   with   an
15    unblemished  38-0 record and 120-14 mark for his career; with
16    120 wins, he is tied for fourth on the school's all-time  win
17    list; and

18        WHEREAS,  Matt  Lackey  is a favorite son of Illinois and
19    will be competing to bring  home  the  Olympic  Gold  to  our
20    State; therefore, be it

21        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
22    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
23    we   congratulate   Matt   Lackey  on  winning  the  National
24    Championship and wish him well in all of his future endeavors
25    especially at the Olympic Trials; and be it further

26        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
27    presented  to  Head Coach Mark Johnson and NCAA Champion Matt
28    Lackey with our respect and esteem.
