 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of Illinois wish to congratulate David F. Vite on
 4    completing 26 years  of  service  with  the  Illinois  Retail
 5    Merchants Association; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Vite  is President and CEO of the Illinois
 7    Retail Merchants Association (IRMA) which  serves  as  leader
 8    and  spokesman  for  Illinois retailing; he joined in 1978 as
 9    Field  Representative  and  later  assumed  the  position  of
10    Manager Member Relations with responsibilities for membership
11    and service program development; he was named Vice  President
12    Government Affairs in 1981; and

13        WHEREAS,   During   the   time  that  Mr.  Vite  was  the
14    Association's chief lobbyist, he directed all legislative and
15    governmental affairs activities and  served  as  liaison  for
16    members  with  elected officials, administrative, department,
17    and agency  representatives;  his  activities  in  that  area
18    brought  favorable recognition to IRMA and all retailing from
19    media, legislators, and business organizations; and

20        WHEREAS, Mr. Vite was named Executive Vice  President  in
21    1983  and  in  May  of  1985,  he  assumed  the  position  of
22    President;  he served two years on the Board of Directors and
23    Executive Committee of the  National  Retail  Federation  and
24    chaired  the National Association of State Retail Association
25    Executives for one term; and

26        WHEREAS, Mr. Vite is civically  active  as  well,  having
27    served on the school board of St. Mary's Elementary School in
28    Woodstock  for  five  years,  two  of  which,  he  served  as
29    Chairman;  he  spent  eight years on the Memorial Hospital of
30    McHenry County Board of Directors, serving  from  1989  until
31    1997,  and  he  served  three  of  those  years  as the Board
32    Chairman; he also served two years  on  the  Centegra  Health

 1    System  Board  of  Directors, ending his term in May of 1997;
 2    and

 3        WHEREAS, Mr. Vite is a  graduate  of  the  University  of
 4    Wisconsin, Lacrosse and is a former Executive Director of the
 5    Woodstock  Chamber  of Commerce and Industry; he and his wife
 6    Jane have two daughters, Amanda and Gretchen;  therefore,  be
 7    it

 8        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 9    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
10    we  congratulate  David  F.  Vite,  President  and CEO of the
11    Illinois  Retail  Merchant   Association,   on   successfully
12    completing 26 years of service with that organization; and be
13    it further

14        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
15    presented to David F. Vite as a  token  of  our  respect  and
16    esteem.
