 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The United States Congress is  considering  H.R.
 3    163,  also  known as the Universal Service Act of 2003, which
 4    requires that all young persons in the United States  perform
 5    a  period  of  military or civilian service in furtherance of
 6    the national defense and homeland security; and

 7        WHEREAS, National  defense  and  homeland  security  have
 8    become  a  priority for the citizens of the State of Illinois
 9    and Illinois' legislators; therefore, be it

10        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
11    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12    we urge Congress to pass and President George W. Bush to sign
13    H.R. 163, also known as the Universal National Service Act of
14    2003; and be it further

15        RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be sent
16    to President George W. Bush and each member of  the  Illinois
17    Congressional delegation.
