HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Eric Miller, age 41, of Chicago on November 24, 2003; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago and grew up on the West Side; the eldest boy in his family, he took on the role of dad to his four siblings after their father died; and

WHEREAS, As the Quigley North High School valedictorian and a standout basketball player, he had several academic and sport scholarship offers, but turned them down to go to a university close to his family; after graduating from DePaul University in 1985 with an accounting degree, he was a law clerk and, later, the director of operations at the law firm of Feingold & Levy, a job that inspired him to pursue a career in public service and politics; and

WHEREAS, He worked on the issues staff for the Illinois House of Representatives before moving to county government in 1999, where he was special assistant to Cook County Board President John H. Stroger, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Eric had an entrepreneurial attitude and was the classic example of a self-motivated man; he brought his keen intellect and attention to detail to every endeavor he undertook; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Eric Miller has been felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his daughter, Jehan; his mother, Ada; his sisters, Angela Renee and Michele; his brothers, Theron and Seaphes; his grandmother, Navie Butler; and his fiancee, Rita Alviar; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eric Miller and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
