HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church is
3 celebrating its 150th anniversary; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The early settlers of mostly German descent around
5 Schapville held church services and Sunday school in various
6 schoolhouses and in the homes of the settlers; a congregation
7 organized in 1854 and built a log church in 1856, which stood
8 directly behind the present church; the new church was
9 dedicated in 1886; "The Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church"
10 was adopted as the church's official name in 1925; and
 
11     WHEREAS, In 1926, a substantial addition was constructed to
12 meet the increasing needs of the congregation; in 1942 the
13 church was completely redecorated and a depiction of "Christ In
14 Gethsemane" was painted in the recess in the front of the
15 sanctuary; in 1948, stained glass windows with Christian
16 symbols replaced the original panes in the sanctuary; the manse
17 was dedicated in 1951; the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church
18 was a mission church from 1975 until 1984; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Douglas Hall currently serves as the
20 interim Pastor of the church; the church provides a variety of
21 educational programs and numerous events throughout the year
22 for the congregation and the surrounding communities;
23 therefore, be it
 
24     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26 that we congratulate the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church on
27 the occasion of its sesquicentennial celebration and we convey
28 our appreciation for its many contributions to the communities
29 it serves; and be it further
 
30     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
