HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Jane Ramsey has served as Executive Director of the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs for 25 years, presiding over a period of success and growing membership; and

WHEREAS, The Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (JCUA) is recognizing her 25 years of leadership on November 13, 2004; and

WHEREAS, As Executive Director of JCUA, she has worked for the benefit of all Chicagoans by addressing important issues such as homelessness and community displacement, community reinvestment, police conduct, unemployment, racism, and anti-Semitism; and

WHEREAS, She has been a lifelong activist and has dedicated her life to improving the condition of Chicago's most disenfranchised residents; and

WHEREAS, She has inspired countless others to strive for social justice in her capacity as a lecturer and field organizer for the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration; and

WHEREAS, During a leave of absence from JCUA, she advised Mayor Harold Washington on issues affecting Chicago's diverse neighborhoods as Director of Community Relations for the Office of the Mayor; and

WHEREAS, She has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the well-being of Chicago through her service on numerous boards, including the Chicago Coalition to Protect Public Housing, Chicago Rehab Network, Public Welfare Coalition, the Commission on Social Action of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (now the Union for Reform Judaism), and Women in Charge; and

WHEREAS, Under her leadership, the JCUA has become one of Chicago's most active and important social justice organizations and a model for other Jewish social justice organizations throughout the country; and

WHEREAS, In her service to JCUA and the people of Chicago, she has faithfully demonstrated the ideals of "tikkun olam"; and

WHEREAS, With 25 years under her belt, she is just getting started; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our thanks to Jane Ramsey for her years of accomplishment serving the people of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jane Ramsey as an expression of our esteem.
