HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois congratulate Richard and Polly Boyajian of Chicago on their retirement and salute Mr. Boyajian's store, Boyajian's Bazaar, a small Gandhi-inspired shop in the Hyde Park area of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Boyajian created Boyajian's Bazaar following a 1968 teaching mission in India, where he was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi to do what he could to improve the quality of life; and

WHEREAS, For nearly 24 years, Boyajian's Bazaar has been not only a Hyde Park tradition, but also an outlet for people from around the world who make and sell handcrafted items like Indian bedspreads, stone and wood carvings, Mexican dishes, papier mache and wood boxes, dolls, jewelry, and beads; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Boyajian's dedication to helping others is demonstrated by his contributions to many different charities and organizations and his annual benefit for UNICEF; and

WHEREAS, Even after he closes his store and retires, Mr. Boyajian plans to participate in the art and handcraft fairs that have become a part of his life; he plans to set up shop in retirement homes, churches, and schools for jewelry repair and instruction; and

WHEREAS, Polly Boyajian is also retiring from her position as Program Director of the Adult Day Center, Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, where she has used her skills as an administrator for more than two decades; and

WHEREAS, Polly and Dick Boyajian plan to retire in Olympia, Washington in order to be nearer to their three loving children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we wish Polly and Dick Boyajian well in their retirement and commend them for their generosity of spirit, their charitable ways, and their long and notable presence in the Hyde Park area of Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Richard and Polly Boyajian.
