 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Murphy's dedicated  and  resolute
 3    service as College of DuPage President from July 1994 through
 4    June  2003  served to enrich and impact the lives and careers
 5    of nearly 300,000 Illinois  citizens  of  all  ages,  creeds,
 6    backgrounds,   and  academic  needs  during  his  enlightened
 7    nine-year tenure; and

 8        WHEREAS, Under Dr. Murphy's  most  capable  guidance  and
 9    leadership,  College  of  DuPage  grew  to  take its place as
10    America's largest  single-campus  community  college  with  a
11    diverse enrollment of 34,535 full-time and part-time students
12    who  today  in  credit  curriculum  range  in  age from 17 to
13    101-year-old author Marie Morman of Lemont; and

14        WHEREAS,  President  Murphy's  unswerving  commitment  to
15    students  was  evidenced  through  his  development  of   the
16    innovative  College  of  DuPage  Academic  Computing  Center,
17    Career  Services Center, and Student Leadership Program while
18    also  dramatically  expanding  the  college's  state-renowned
19    Honors Scholar Program; and

20        WHEREAS, Many College of DuPage honors  students  reached
21    unparalleled  heights  in  academic  success during President
22    Murphy's tenure, including graduate  Maureen  Dunne,  who  in
23    1998   became   the  nation's  first-ever  community  college
24    graduate to be  awarded  the  Rhodes  Scholarship  to  Oxford
25    University in England; and

26        WHEREAS,  President  Murphy's  acumen  and  attention  to
27    detail  also  decidedly  improved  College of DuPage's fiscal
28    ability to better serve its students through  the  successful
29    completion of the $5 million Major Gifts Campaign in 2001 and
30    the  passage  of  a $183 million bond issue in November 2002;
31    therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 2    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we do hereby  offer  our  heartiest  congratulations  to  Dr.
 4    Michael  T.  Murphy  for  meritorious  service  as College of
 5    DuPage President,  for  his  consummate  commitment  to  both
 6    excellence  and  innovation  in higher education, and for his
 7    tireless efforts in  fostering  the  concept  and  ideals  of
 8    lifelong   learning  to  students  throughout  the  State  of
 9    Illinois; and be it further

10        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
11    presented  to Dr. Michael T. Murphy as a token of our respect
12    and esteem.
