HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize James "Jimmy" Jones of Belleville for his many contributions to music and the arts; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jones is a seasoned professional entertainer with more that 40 years of experience in the music industry; he is also an accomplished author of "Sweet-Hot-Blue"; and

WHEREAS, From 1951 to 1954, Mr. Jones entertained the United States Troops in Guam and Japan with the "Just Rhythm Show"; and

WHEREAS, Upon returning home in 1954, he began his career with Jimmilyn Records in Belleville, a full service recording company; he is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and provides his management experience in studio production; he has worked with such recording artists as the late Tab Smith, and gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jones taught music theory and arranging at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville for two years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jones has been married to his wife, Mrs. Nancy L. Jones, for 25 years; they have 8 foster children, Lakia, Latricia, Chantay, Timyra, Christopher, Joshua, Keontee, and Donte'; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jones and his family are faithful members of St. Henry Catholic Church in Belleville; and

WHEREAS, A special tribute will be held at the East St. Louis Senior High School Auditorium on June 27, 2004 in honor of James "Jimmy" Jones's dedication and his many years of inspiring leadership as a recording artist, musician, composer, writer, singer, and publisher; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize James "Jimmy" Jones and his devotion to the music industry; and we wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James "Jimmy" Jones as a token of our admiration.
