HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The love of family is at the center of the African
3 tradition, and also has been the religious, economic, and
4 political unit encompassing a wide circle of extended kinship;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Families and their legacies of struggling with
7 adversity, pursuing their dreams, and persevering through
8 trials and tribulations are an integral part of the character
9 and diversity of Illinois history; and
 
10     WHEREAS, It is fitting that the members of this General
11 Assembly should pause to pay tribute to those families who
12 embody those values and who, through their good works, have
13 contributed to the growth and development of Illinois; and
 
14     WHEREAS, A family with a singularly rich history is the
15 Fricks family, which has hailed from Arkansas for generations;
16 over the years, the family has spread its roots to Illinois,
17 Michigan, California, and Virginia, to name just a few states;
18 and
 
19     WHEREAS, The first known member of the Fricks family,
20 Clayton Fricks, was part African-American and part Native
21 American and lived in Ouachita County, Arkansas; and
 
22     WHEREAS, A determined and industrious family, the members
23 of the Fricks family made their living as farmers and
24 sharecroppers; and
 
25     WHEREAS, It is known that a gravesite in Ouachita County,
26 Arkansas bears the name of "Good Hope Cemetery", and it is also
27 known that there are other ancestors of the current Fricks
28 family line buried therein; and

1     WHEREAS, Clayton Fricks and his wife, the former Lillie
2 Warren, were well-known and respected in the community for
3 their values of hard work and Christian love for their fellow
4 neighbors; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Gracie Fricks Box, Grover Cleveland Fricks, Katie
6 Fricks Alexander, Jewel Fricks, James Fricks Sr., and Callie
7 Fricks Murphy continued the legacy of the Fricks family; as a
8 result, the Fricks family has flourished and extended itself
9 across the entire United States; and
 
10     WHEREAS, It is fitting that we should pay tribute to the
11 Fricks family, a model of family values and integrity;
12 therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 honor the ongoing legacy of the Fricks family, commend their
16 love for each other and their pride in the family's heritage,
17 and extend to them best wishes for future reunions and
18 historical research; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the Fricks family.
